Hello, I am a long-time reader but first time poster here on college confidential. I have to say that people on here have amazing credentials under their belt!

I am going to be a junior this upcoming school year. I will be taking the following AP courses

English Literature and Composition AP
Chemistry II AP
U.S. History AP

I have never taken an AP class/test before due to it was not offered at my school sophomore year. I will also be taking the Physics AP exam (not sure which I think the B). This is because although my Physics class next year is not labeled AP it is rigorous and have been told that I may still take the exam.

I realize that this will be 4 exams and not enough to qualify for the AP Scholar with Distinction award...due to you need 5. Does this award look good on applications to Ivies etc.?

I was wondering if I could self-study for an AP exam and which one would be pretty easy to do so for? (World History? Biology?) I have taken 3 years of Spanish and have the option of taking Spanish IV AP test however I've been told it is extremely difficult!

I also wanted to know how different the Physics C exams are? Because I was thinking of actually self-studying for those 2 exams and maybe 2 others. This way if I would get a 4 on all 8 then I could be considered for National AP scholar. Is this just insane? Are the AP's too difficult to self-study and get 4's on?

Which AP's would be the easiest to self-study for? I have also gotten some SAT II books for Physics and Chemistry.....will these help on the AP or are they completely different exams?

Thanks, and any answers/help is much appreciated!

easy self study
Stats, Psych, Environmental Science, Econ (Macro?)

Not to be a *****, but if ur planning on taking humanities ap's u may wanna work on developing better grammar and writing skills. ur post had some incoherent sentences, especially the ones containing the phrase "due to"

The awards wouldn't have a significant impact on admission decisions. They can only add to your demonstrated initiative, skill, and interest.

If you still want to go for 5 exams, self study an easy one. Bio is only easy if you've done well in the past (750+ on the SAT II - I got an 800 and then got a 5 on the AP with only one day of studying), and I've heard that World History is pretty easy. However, Human Geography, Psychology, Statistics, and Environmental Science (if you don't use Barron's!) are notorious for being very easy to study for. I would recommend one of those.

It would not be completely insane to go for the National AP Scholar award, as many students on this forum have won it in their junior years. You would have to self study three exams, which is doable ONLY if you have the time to dedicate to them. Remember, you need a 4 on each and every exam, not just an average of 4. If you're studying for the SAT, concentration on grades and activities, and have never taken an AP before, however, I wouldn't recommend it; it would be too risky. I self studied a couple of exams this year, but I was so panicky that I overstudied and freaked out too much.

If you're a good student and work hard on your AP's for 2-4 full months before the exams, I have no doubt that you'll be able to be an AP Scholar with Distinction.

SAT II's require a little bit less than AP's, so if you study for an AP and then take the corresponding SAT II, you should be fine. But if you've taken the SAT II first, you'll need to study a little bit more material for the AP. Overall, though, they usually pretty much go hand in hand.

Good luck!

reading review books helped me on AP exams more than any class (except for Physics B- my teacher rocked).

Thanks for the help. So Barron's isn't good to study for AP with? Anybody else have some good test books so that I could self-study myself to a 5, maybe 4? Thanks!

Is 8 AP tests unreasonable? What if I studied subjects simultaneously from right now and continued to until May? Thanks again!

i've heard barrons is good for psych. 8 ap tests isn't unreasonable by CC standards. there are plenty of people who've taken 12-13 ap's in 1 year. i know i wouldnt be able to handle that, which is y i spread mine over the years so i wouldn't be taking more than 4 in one year. But if u have the resolve to self study all those ap's from right now until May, by all means do it.
