AP/Honors Cap Question?

<p>I just want to make sure that 8 semesters actually means only 4 classes???</p>

<p>Example: AP US History - A 1 Yr Class = 2 Semesters of Honors Pts…Leaving only 6 more???</p>

<p>yes (10 char)</p>

<p>you want more than 8 semeseters total in high school though 10-12. . .like 18 or 19 should be a good number</p>

<p>coronado18sd: You can take more than the 8 semesters but BE SURE THAT IF YOU DO THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO HANDLE THE LOAD AND STILL MAINTAIN A'S because if you don't it will bring down your uc/csu gpa and when it comes app time one of the most single important thing is your UC gpa. I learned the hard way. It's all about numbers.</p>

<p>Socaligirl: What schools did you get accepted to (or rejected)??? What were your stats???</p>

<p>Is This A Good Amount? 10th Grade - 2 Semesters, 11th Grade - 6 Semesters, 12th Grade - 8 Semesters
Also with that my UC GPA will be a 4.0 or a 4.08</p>

<p>coronado 18sd: Accepted to UCI, UCD, UCSB, Cal Poly Slo, and SDSU
Rejected: UCLA, UCB, and UCSD
College of Engineering
Took 4 semesters 10th, 8 semesters 11th, 2 semesters and 10 units of Calc at local CC 12th.
Overall h.s. academic gpa 10-11th-3.93
UC/CSU gpa 10-11th 3.67
good ec's- over 350 comm. serv.
CSF,several awards
special talent: art- state level
educational summer programs: Offered through the state of California-had to be selected
I had a 4.2 gpa going into 11th but the cap killed my gpa end of my junior year. If I had only taken 4 semesters my junior year, I probably would have been in a lot better position. I also had 48+ semesters of a-g required courses. Remember, it doesn't matter how many ap's or honor courses you've taken. Take a strong academic load that you can handle ie: 4 yrs foreign language, 4+ years math, 4 years science incl. bio, physics, and chem, 4 years cp english, 3+ years social science. etc.
There was only about 4 students from my school that got accepted to UCLA and they only took half the ap's, but their gpa was higher. Also, don't forget ec's, you don't need a whole lot of them, but make sure you have been consistently involved at least 3+ years.
Good Luck!!!!</p>

<p>So the whole Cap on GPA means that you can only take 8 semesters of "A=5 pts" classes? Doesnt that mean if I take 10 semester of AP/Honor/CC courses, my GPA would be lowered even if I receive all A's??? :(</p>

<p>Yah....I know it sucks!!!! UC's are retarted.</p>

<p>the A would still count as a 4. But your full weighted GPA will be lower than your school would calculate.</p>

<p>the students at our high school that were accepted to both Cal and UCLA has 4 years of nothing but honors/AP courses, and, at most 3-4 B's in four years. Only one of our top students was not accepted to both schools.</p>

<p>Also, ELC is calculated based on UNcapped gpa.</p>

<p>what if you have block schedule ?</p>
