AP Human Geo or AP Gov't?

Hey all,

I am currently a junior signed up to take AP Government and Politics for my senior year. But I've been having some terrible, ominous, foundation-shaking doubts lately about my choice (not really)

You see, the overwhelming majority of seniors in my school choose between either Government or AP Human Geography as their social studies class. I am equally interested in each class' course material, but I always thought it looked much better to admissions people to see AP Gov on an applicant's schedule, because it is supposedly a "harder" class and exam than HuGe is. However, many of my friends have already signed up for HuGe, and I am also on a friendly basis with the HuGe Teacher (who would best be described as, in a word, "chill"). Whereas, with the Gov teacher, I am clueless on how harsh he is with his class and grades.

My question is: just how much better will it look on an application to see certain A's in Human Geo than uncertain performance in AP Government? Will it look like I'm not challenging myself if I take Human Geo?

Hi Twang,
I seem to be having the same problem as you. Like, the exact same. I’m going into my senior year and trying to decide between the two. The Human Geo teacher is super fun and the class is super easy which would probably help my gpa out a little, but I also really wanna take Ap Gov first because it’s harder and second because I love politics. But since it’s a lot more difficult, I’m uncertain about the grade I would get. Also, I was hoping for a semi-easier senior year than this year. So I don’t really have much of an answer for you. I think colleges know Human Geo is one of the easier aps but if you have a couple other ap classes I don’t think they’ll care all that much. However, if you’re slacking on the aps then I’d recommend ap gov to show you wanna work hard and all that.
