I'm going to wait for mail (don't want to spend $8), but I was wondering, what were you scores, and were they higher/lower than expected? I just want to get an idea for what area my score will be in...

Bumpppppp.

Bump #2....

hey! I got a 5 on the exam, which is about what I expected because I thought the multiple choice and essays were pretty straightforward (the essays were, to a certain extent, boring(!), because I thought they were going to test on more interesting topics...)

i might be an anomaly though, because I'm a huge geography nerd (one of my friends and I are OFFICIALLY geography nerd buddies ...oddly enough she went on to win Homecoming Queen...)

but yeah, i just kind of carefully went through the multiple choice, and then wrote a detailed paragraph for each essay question. i kindof bullshat some in the in the urban geographic essay question, but not to the point that i was really worried about the score.

hope this helps!

Thanks, bard. What do others have to say?

Did either of you use the Barron's study book? And if you did, what did you think of it?

I used it, and felt VERY confident going into the exam. However, after taking it, I felt as if it was a waste of time--the stuff that was on there that came from Barrons, I already knew, and there was PLENTY on the exam that didn't come from the book.

Have you also taken world history? If I'm going to take these tests with self-study, I only want to take one of them. I'd like to know what you think of each.

Hmmm, haven't taken world history, but human geography is considered "one of the easier tests." I can't tell you for sure, though, because this was the first AP exam I've taken.

no Barrons nor any book for me- just a semester with a very very good teacher and a very very good daily review session for about the week before the test (I took it fall semester- not by choice...the semester that is)

I can tell you World History AP is one of the harder AP tests. Self-studying for it would seem extremely difficult to me, as you basically need to know everything that's ever happened...ever. You have to be able to know facts and evidence from all the eras (broken up something like 1914-present, 1750-1914, etc etc), and all the different ways of looking at a society or nation (gender roles, labor, weaponry, technology, government structure, religion, etc etc). Oftentimes you also need to analyze why those things are the way they are, and compare and contrast them. Finally, knowledge of all parts of the world are necessary; they'll quiz you on everything from Western Europe to South Asia, along with Africa, South America, Central America and the Carribean, East Europe, Russia, East Asia, and SE Asia. It makes me tired just thinking about it.

I self-studied World History AP (... I technically took a World History Honors course at my school, actually, but it was only roughly 200 years ... scarcely anything, in the scheme of AP) ...

It was difficult. I wouldn't recommend it for self-study.

I took AP World History in a class. I recommend you take the class if you want to do well on the AP. It's difficult material-wise. AP ush is more straight forward IMO.
