AP human geography score result

Hi,
My son is a rising sophomore. His AP hum results just came out and he was shocked to see a 1. He never expected 1. He had a very good teacher throughout the year. He also made As both his semesters. He worked very hard throughout the year. We are thinking of rescoring the test. Can anyone suggest if it would be a good?woukd it help? Has anyone else had any situation like this?
Thank you.

Rescoring rarely results in a score change. If the cost isn’t prohibitive to you, and it would make you feel better, then you could do it. If it really bothers him, he could study more and retake the test, but his time might be better spent elsewhere. Otherwise, I’d just move on.

My rising sophomore experienced the same issue. Solid A’s all year long, excellent scores on practice exams. We went ahead and did the rescore as we suspect something had to happen as he wasn’t with the regular group as he has special accommodations for his Aspergers. We were short led by the 1 to say the least. Sent off the check and are awaiting the rescore and booklet.

Thank you for the sharing your experience candyce1. Hope both our sons get their scores corrected. We have sent only for multiple choice restoring. Will the booklet be helpful? I read online the frq will not be rechecked and also we don’t get the scores for frq.

@FluffyPanda438, if you order the booklet, you can compare his answers to the scoring guidelines. Also, if they cannot find your booklet, the score will only depend on the multiple choice (from what I’ve read).

Fret not…colleges are much more concerned about your grades in those classes as opposed to the AP tests.

Why is that?

  1. Doing well in a class shows you can learn over the year and work hard over a period of time. That is what they want in college.
  2. Not all HS have many APs.
  3. Many people take AP tests senior year which is too late for admissions

For example, Stanford says:
Students currently enrolled in AP courses are not required to submit AP scores as part of our admission process. AP scores that are reported are acknowledged but rarely play a significant role in the evaluation of an application. Grades earned over the course of a term, or a year, and evaluations from instructors who can comment on classroom engagement provide us with the most detailed insight into a student’s readiness for the academic rigors of Stanford.

Where does this leave you?

  1. It tells you that you cannot place out of that class in college…you will need to take them in college like many many other people do.
  2. Do not self report your scores
  3. He may not be ready as a freshman to take a college level course.
  4. Your teacher is not that good in teaching AP level or your son is not good at standardized tests

Hi candyce1, did you get your son’s Ap scores recorrected back?

@FluffyPanda438 Yes we got his re-scored book back and he earned … a 1. lol we laugh now but still bummed and he fears his upcoming 3 AICE exams this year.

5 Idon’t totally agree. Stanford’s stance on AP I think may not be every schools. In APHUGE i think the AP score may be more important than the class grade unlike most other AP classes. It’s not the most widely accepted AP test as it is.I think you may be on to something with the teacher not be good at teaching. My daughter as a Frosh barely got an A in the class and got a 5 on the test.

My kids had different teachers but the same school. Both got a B in the class both semesters one got 4 on the test and one got 5. I would be very skeptical of the teaching if the kid got an A in the class and a 1 the test
