Today I received my AP Human Geo exam and got a 3. But I had an A in the class, yet I still get a 3 on the AP exam… Will this ruin my application to the University of Texas at Austin? I’m trying to apply for the natural sciences field, so it wouldn’t really matter for Human Geo would it? The good thing is that UT Austin accepts a 3,4, or a 5 on the Human Geo exam to get credit. Please help!
It was my first AP Exam, I didn’t know what to except (I’m going to be a sophomore in August)
You need to look at what UT looks at for admissions. By law, they must fill 90 percent of their class with Texas residents. 75 percent of that 90 percent must come from the top 10 percent (which means some years, it is top 7 percent and some years it is top 8 percent). Pay attention to your rank.
Then they look at your SAT/ACT test scores combined with rank to calculate an academic indicator and everything else to calculate a personal achievement index. So the next most important thing is those tests.
Everything else is a "factor of a factor"as one of the Supreme Court justices have pointed out.
It’s not that big a deal, especially given that this was during your freshman year.
I don’t know much about this class. Next year our high school is offering it for the first time and is opening it up to freshmen. My niece will be taking it. I wouldn’t worry about your AP score. Taking an AP exam for the first time, and as a freshman can be nerve wracking. But now you know what to expect as you go forward…
You self-report AP scores and it is not required even if you took an AP class. If you don’t like your score, don’t report it.
Will the score be on your transcript?
it’s the end of the world. You will not be able to get into UT-Austin because you got a three on your AP Human Geo exam. Obviously I’m joking, one AP exam score will not ruin you for any school. Your grade in the class is what really matters, and you got an A. AP exams are meant for credit in college, not admissions (usually) and you got what was needed for credit.
Exactly…AP exams are to get you credit in college and are not really a factor in admissions.
Use your score to indicate that you need to study differently/more/better when you get to college.
Your grades and ACT/SAT are the most important things.
Since the school you’re applying to accepts credit for a 3, I wouldn’t be worried at all. I dont think admissions officers in general take more than like .5 seconds looking at your scores, and it really wouldn’t hurt you anyway.
But since they take credit for it then they consider that a worthy score so you shouldn’t be dissapointed at all.
