AP Human Geography

I signed up for it because I heard it was simple. Is it really? LAtely, I've been hearing that's its quite difficult and i'm getting discouraged as i only just started studying for it.

I'm planning on taking it, and I've yet to open the book.

I've heard that it is the easiest AP to take, however, easiest AP doesn't necessariy equal easy for most people.

My D took it last year and got a 4 on the test. However, very few colleges accept this AP for credit. Check your prospective colleges to decide whether or not the class is worthwhile. She did feel that it was a pretty easy class because the material had real-world application and made lots of sense.

The class was very easy, and I did well on the practice tests, but the actual exam kinda threw a lot of people off. Still, I got a 5, and assuming this year's test won't be so weird, it's def. one of the easiest tests/classes.

VERY easy test, or so I thought. Others may find it more difficult.

is it a lot of critial thinking or more knowledge of the subject? if its the first, what frame of thinking helped you get that 4 or 5 on the test?

current events are important.

what kind of current events?

Yea, what type of events because the released exam was a lot harder than the Barron's
I did bad on the released exam but I got about 67/75 on the Barron's test which makes no sense.

THe real test IS A LOT HARDER than the barron's test.

Hi guys,
It's about 3 days away from the H geo exam and I just stumbled upon this site.
I have some URGENT questions I really want to ask.

I'm self-studying it the H geo exam with Barron's and didn't find out there was even a textbook till I came across this site about 20 minutes ago. On the condition that I studied and retained about at least 85% of the info in the Barron's, how prepared am I?

I checked out the regular World Geo textbook from the school; is it helpful on the exam? (it's more generic than the Barrons)

Other than knowing the vocab and examples, what else do we need to do to prepare?

Quoting Ryan2288: "current events are important." What do you mean by "current events"?

Thanks!
~Lucy

Well the barrons test is really all vocab. The vocab is important but the real test actually focuses on an assortment of random facts about different parts of the world. I mean current events in the context of geography. For example they may ask about the newest province in canada and where it is located, or what is bangladesh doing to combat its population problems? Strange questions like this often appear on the APHG exam. I wouldn't be intimidated, just think globally and liberally.

Ok...so a comparison to the Barron's text and test, is the Barron's book sufficient enough for the test?
Are the Barron's tests even worth doing?

Thanks.

yes the barrons tests are worth doing because vocab is very important

How would you suggest prepping for the "current events" section of the exam--reading the newspaper, etc?

I went on the collegeboard website...and the free-response is pretty hard, so I don't know how I am gonna do that! Yikes!

Oh yeah, thanks Ryan, for explaining the current events thing.

One more question...

The free-response is about 75 minutes long, right? All the years before 2005 it was only 60 minutes... do you guys know how long it is this year?

This year, it is 75 minutes long, so the whole test is 2 hours and 15 minutes long.

More info visit: www.collegeboard.com/ap

Do you guys know how to tell what your score is for the AP HG? I took the 1st practice test for Barrons, got 61 correct, missed 12, skipped 2. (Geez that was bad!)

I also don't know how to score my essay... and i'm sorry if i sound like trivial.. anyone give some pointers on how to write it proficiently?

Gratzi!
~Lucy

Well...I got 67/75 for the Barron's test, and on the released exam I got 50/74, so the released exam is a little harder, but your score is very good.

To calculate MC score: 61-.25(12) = 58 times .8 = 46.4, and 70 gives you a 5.

70-46.4 = 23.4 on Free Response, so that would be a 5, the problem is the real test is a little harder.

Good Luck!!

Wait, so what is the score for a 4 and a 5? and a 3?

(panic attack)
