AP Human Geography

Ok, so I bought Barrons for AP Human Geo and it's my first AP Class. (im a freshman) I know this is going to soud stupid, but how do I study? Do I just read the book and memorize it along with my class book? Im a aiming for a 5, I know I can get it. Thanks!

That’s basically how you do it! You might have to read it thorough a couple of times, but I’m sure you’ll do fine on the AP. Human Geo is widely considered to be one of the easier tests.

Ok, how long before should i start studying?

Generally people start studying late March (now) for AP tests, but since you’re only doing one, you could probably afford to start a bit later (around early April). Just remember to review again about 2 weeks before the exam.

OK Thanks! One more question! Should I focus more on facts, or the reasons explaining those facts?

Guess what? I will be officially start to study (actually go through Barron) tomorrow!!!
I am self-studying.

Does anyone know a good source for current events? (that is necessary on the AP HuG exam.
I try to google but no good sites came up.

blabbermouth, you have the actual class? If you do, I think you will be very okay.

We definitely can do it! I am aiming for a 5 too.

Def. And yeah, im kinda curious about the current event thing too, like for examples and stuff.

I heard that AP HuG exam is mostly on models and concepts. I also heard the definitions could get you through most of the exam.
That’s what I gathered by going through CC boards.

Hmm, that’s a hard question. I haven’t taken Human Geo myself, but I would focus on whatever the exam requires you to. Go to College Board and look at some of the practice questions for Geo (in the Course Description). They will give you an idea of what to focus on.

Thats what my teacher said! lol He said the models are a huge part of the exam, and trust me, my teacher is, “da Bomb”, as he calls himself

I found this blog [Martin's AP Human Geography Current Events](http://www.martinsclass.com/aphug/category/currentevent/)
But I can never figure out where to begin.
It has some good info on current events.

If you guys seriously want guaranteed 5’s, get the Princeton Review APHG book. I know virtually everything in Barron’s, and I get around a 5 on all their practice tests. However, when I first read through PR, I was like “wow, I really don’t know very much.” Very comprehensive, almost like a textbook but a lot smaller and easier to read. It provides many examples and even includes a few models that Barron’s does not have. Written by an actual APHG exam writer, I am pretty positive that it is the best.

Thank you for the advice, puggly123!
I will check out PR after I finished Barron :)

Is it better to read both or is Princeton Review enough?

Does the textbook even help? We have one from 2002.

I read half of Rubensteins textbook, quit, read Barron’s about twice, read REA, and recently got PR. PR is BY FAR the best. If I would have known, I would have only bought that prep book. Barron’s is pretty inadequate compared to Princeton Review. If you know everything for PR, you will certainly get a 5. In my opinion, it is really that good. The practice tests are hard in PR. Like I said earlier, I get 5’s on all the Barron’s practice tests. They seem too easy. On PR tests, although I haven’t taken one yet, I would probably get a high 3 or a low 4 from my Barron’s knowledge.

Then maybe I should just start w/ PR instead of finishing Barron then PR…
Hmm.

I would suggest just to study both.

I used Barron’s for the exam, and really liked it. I ended up scoring a 5 with reading Barrons once and paying attention in class. My teacher was awesome…

Just remember, for the essays, anything goes! Just write down ANYTHING that comes to mind, even if you’re not sure how valid it is. Unless the essay format has changed, you only get points for what is right.

I would also suggest knowing VOCABULARY. I made vocab cards from every single chapter from the Rubenstein book, and I felt that helped me a LOT.

Good luck!

i took the test last year and self studied with the barrons book and got a 5, my teacher taught honor cultural geography and he was horrible so no help from thr

but its a reasonably easy test, make sure you know where religions are around the world and in the usa and you know stuff like rostow’s model and all the diffrent cities etc…

and i studied the week of …(it was on friday) i read the whole book monday-thursday nite, scram fest!
