AP in May of the year enrolling in college??

I'm an international student, senior year.
I plan to self study for AP, and take it in May 2011.
I'm entering college in Fall 2011, obviously the test takes place after the admissions results are out.

1) Should I state that I'm self studying for the AP subjects when I'm filling out CommonApp??
Though the college admissions office won't be able to see the scores before the admissions decisions are sent.

2) I always hear US students mention taking AP classes during senior year.
Does that mean they sit for the exam in May right before senior year, or in May at the end of senior year??
If they're taking at the end of senior year, colleges won't be able to consider the results when reviewing applications right? Why do they take them?

Under the score section put the tests you’re going to take and leave the scores blank, with the future date

You are correct that tests in May of the senior year do not factor into admissions decisions, but they do count toward placement in college classes and most colleges give college credit for strong scores.
