say i take advanced classes at my school that are BEYOND AP level/take college classes/independent study and then i take the test(s) and get 4/5's.. is that just as credible as having the AP class on your transcript?

Yes. Colleges will use the report from Collegeboard for placement/credit for courses, assuming they give AP credit.

It really depends on the college - check some websites. For example, not all colleges even recognize AP Govt. Others may only give credit for a 5. Others may not give course credit, but allow placement into a higher level courses.

Schools will see the marks you got on your exams. The good thing is that, since you didn't take a real AP class, you won't necessarily have to report any bad marks.

Colleges give credit based on AP exam scores only. The class grades affect GPA. By self studying, you will get AP credit (given that you pass and get the score required by your school) but the bonus points(or any other incentives your school gives for AP classes) will not be used to calculate your GPA and will not show up on your transcript.
