Hey are any of you taking AP Japanese this year? Do you guys feel like you're gonna prepared for it? How long have you been studying Japanese and what type of things do you know... approx. how many kanji?

I've been taking it since middle school, but I don't really feel like I know that much at all and I'm not sure if I'll be prepared for it either.

I finished four years of Japanese last year, but I definitely won't be taking the exam. I've heard the exam is going to cover 500+ kanji, but I don't know if that's true.. I probably know 200-250-ish. I know a lot of grammatical constructions, but a lot less vocab. than I wish/would need for the exam, hence with kanji + vocab = my reason for not trying.

My son is planning to take the exam. He is self studing. Does anyone have any information about the test besides the one from collegeboard?
If you are taking a class, does you teacher have any suggestions on how to approach this test? thanks, any comments will be appreciated.

My son also will take the exam. He will have had 3 years of Japanese in high school, having self-studied prior to that. He started school two days ago and I was happy to see his teacher included exam prep on the syllabus (not all AP teachers at his school do this); she expects everyone in the class (about 13 kids) to take the exam. I have no idea how many kanji my son knows, although I know he's gone beyond the curriculum of his class to learn more on his own.

J mom, my teacher had a college textbook that he was going to use to help students prepare for the exam (don't remember the name though). Other than that and looking around the internet, I'm not sure if there is any better resource.

I'm sure my son would be very happy to speak with your son about anything Japanese-related. Please feel free to email me if you'd like my son's contact info.

gator, where do you live/what school do you go to? I go to a normal public school in Ohio and they offer Spanish, French, Japanese, German, and Latin.
