AP Junior Year

I am going to be a junior in high school. and I am undecided between english classes. I am given the option between College Prep Reading and Research, or AP Language and Composition. The college prep course will be easier and prepare me for college more, but AP will boost my GPA, and I don’t think I’m taking enough AP classes. I am only taking AP US History, and I don’t think that only this is enough. I am also taking Honors chemistry, honors algebra 2 with trig, and spanish 4.

If you have taken a college prep or an AP english course, CAN YOU PLEEASE tell me what they are like, and what you think I should do?! Thank you!

The AP Lang and Comp at my son’s high school is a lot of work. What have your grades been like in your previous English courses and your GPA overall? Also what other AP courses, if any, are you looking at for next year? Unless you are looking to get into the most difficult colleges, you do not need 6-8 AP courses. Look at what you are interested in, and take higher level courses in those areas. If it is English and you do well now, take AP. Keep in mind to try and maintain a strong GPA junior year. Colleges like to see a strong GPA. Best of luck to you!

If you’ve been recommended for AP Lang, I’d take it. It’s probably the most useful AP in that what you learn there can be applied to basically any other subject and will serve you well in college (better than college prep reading/writing). Do you think you can handle apush and AP Lang with at least B 's?
