AP Lang/Comp AP score 5 impossible?

@ anyone out there

Should I prepare for the essays like I prepared for the SAT essays?

The essay should have more gravity than a SAT essay. You have to really be able to explain the significance of something. Also have a general working knowledge of events, like one essay on the 2012 exam was about the usps and if they should restructure the workforce to be more efficient or something like that. I used my apush knowledge to answer that question.

I and several of my friends got 5s on Lang. You may have gotten unlucky with a bad teacher - it’s possible that her own personal stats are less than ideal. It’s really not as difficult as it might sound! The only thing that really needs to be learned is the terminology for rhetorical analysis. If you’re a strong writer, you’ll be golden.

Edit: Like dirkslam41 above me said, outside knowledge can also be helpful, especially when writing essays. I also used APUSH on that essay, as well as another one. If you can make outside knowledge interesting and relevant without sounding like a tool, go for it! And good luck :)

LOL. How to get an A in the class and get a 5 on the exam… It depends on where you start out before it and how much you’ve read and wrote / cared about English in the past.

I had a class where the entire grade is essays… And the teacher even claims that he cannot get a bunch of people up to the A range because you have to develop your own style and mastery.

I’m not an English person but am happy to have a 3. After AP Lit only one more year of English in college! :D

I got a 4 on the AP Lang and Comp exam…Just make sure you can write organized essays and answer the prompt. I didn’t study before the exam or anything- just took the class, which wasn’t too challenging.

Definitely not impossible! With proper preparation and above-average writing skills, you can certainly get a 4 if not 5! I would recommend knowing what the graders specifically look for in each essay, and practice practice practice! If you practice writing multiple essays with the time limit with old prompts you will do fine!

For reference I got a 5 on the test.

Don’t worry. AP Lang is EASY. And no, it’s not rare because I got a 5. Just focus on released exams (esp. the essay response) :)

My teacher is biased (and pretty nasty). My essay had no major flaws, I answered the prompt with a rebuttal, clear examples, organized structure, etc…she gives me a 4.5 out of 9. What’s the matter with that? I let another AP Lang/Comp teacher read my essay and she gave me a 7. Hmph.

Definitely not impossible. To prepare, write write write! All we did in class was write and I didn’t feel prepared at all but I ended up making a 5. Also reading nonfiction short literature and essays will help too. Good luck!

My teacher has a 98% pass rate and a 50% 5 rate, so no, it isn’t impossible.

It’s not impossible at all! Everyone in my class got 5s. The only prep you really have to do is learn/study the rhetorical devices.

How similar is the AP Lang test to the AP Lit test?

At my school 10-15 percent of the students who take the class get a 5 each year, it absolutely possible.

Of three people(out of a hundred) who made a five on the exam, two(including me) were major slackers whilst those who prepared heavily for the exam had a ceiling of four.

Don’t sweat it.

Let’s put it this way. English is something that you just have to have a talent for. The people who got 5’s probably had that ability before they even took the class. There’s really no secret behind it, these kids are just very talented students.

English…ughh

I am also a junior planning on taking this test in May. I would definitely take it if I were you. I know more people that got 4s and 5s than I do that got 1s 2s or 3s. My AP Language and Composition teacher is exceptionally good, but almost 40% of students who take his class get 5s on the AP every year, and virtually everyone takes it. You have nothing to lose. Good luck!

I got a 5. Good luck! :)
