AP Lang! Help!

Hey. Our class just took a mock exam, and I got a 4. But I BARELY got it (only 2 points away).

I can write good essays (7 - 8 - 8), but my multiple choice stinks! What can I do to improve my multiple choice scores by Wed?

I believe I got 23 points for the MC part. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Edit: Oh yeah. I really want to make a 4/5. Especially a 5! Thanks all.

you’re probably not going to be able to go from a barely 4 to a 5 in a few days for the English exam. The truth is that improving english isn’t like improving physics - there’s no 20 formulas to memorize and you have a 5. I would try practice tests for the english section until you’re confident in your MC abilities. Congrats on good essay scores though.

A few suggestions…

  1. Pace yourself enough to make it through all four
  2. Be really wary of EXCEPT/ONLY questions
  3. ***If asked to characterize a passage underline and list sets of words that are connotatively or thematically similar to each-other. Then look back at them, and try to summarize that similarity in a word of phrase. This really helped me!!! Remember, word choice is deliberate
  4. Move past your gut instinct. Be concerned if the author is just happy or sad. Look for traces of irony or cynicism. Pieces get selected for an AP exam because they have a twist
  5. Yet, assume that the innate meeting is simple even if the delivery is convoluted
  6. There are many master lists of strategies and tone words available. It is possible you are confused about only a few words that continually hurt you.
  7. If you get 30 multiple choice right with your essays you are certainly in contention for a 4/5.
    Good LUCK

Hey yall
I plan on studying all of the mult choice in Kaplan’s review book, and probably 5 steps to a 5.

Are there any websites I can get actual (released) mult choice questions from? If so, please tell me. I need to time myself and understand where I can improve.
Again, thanks.
