Hello. I am aware that memorizing literary terms is going to be crucial for the AP Language and Composition test; however, what about side vocabulary? When I state “side vocabulary”, I am referring to “fancy words” such as verisimilitude, enjambment, and ambivalence. Does anyone know or have a list of some of these more intellectual words that have or will appear on the AP exam?
I wish I could help but I have the exact same question!!
I guess just do as many practice tests as you can to familiarize yourself with those words and then you can recognize them easier on the real test. Good luck!
To be honest, most of the big words on the test are deducible, and most of them don’t use the first dictionary definition anyways. You’re better off reading the context of the word and creating an idea of what it means rather than learning 5000 words that will maybe show up once or twice.
I got a 5. The multiple choice was more questions specific towards the passage itself. The terms only came in handy during the rhetorical analysis essay.
I took the exam in 2014 and made a 4. While rhetorical terms are important during the class and analyze how rhetoric is used, the only time you need it is like mentioned above in the essay. And you get to pick the terms. Usually it is almost always the same, some form of diction etc.
The multiple choice questions are just like the SATs but harder in the sense that all you have to do is read passages and analyze them. You might get one question here or there that is asking about a term I believe, but that is rare.
I took the exam this year and got 5. Beyond terms relating to rhetoric, I don’t think vocab was that important on the exam.
