Hi guys. I’m super confused about Princeton’s policy regarding the AP English exams. I’m in AP Lang, so should I even bother signing up for the test? I’ve heard Princeton doesn’t let any freshman skip out of the writing classes, and it doesn’t seem to replace any courses, but the credit table that I searched up says it gives 1 “unit of AP”. Can anyone clarify what this means?
In addition, is it even worth taking a foreign language AP test, if I’m a BSE and don’t wish to continue with the language?
Thanks for any advice!
If you indicated you are taking AP courses the scores on your tests will be part of your conditional admission offer, meaning they expect you to complete all coursework in which you are enrolled, and to a satisfactory standard. We ran into a situation for my son in 12th grade where everyone but him dropped out of AP Calc and after checking with admissions they confirmed he should finish it by self studying the material and taking the exam. In his situation I believe they would have been lenient with the results however.
One more thought…my son is now a senior BSE and took some language courses which allowed him to be accepted into a summer language course abroad after his freshman year. So while a second language isn’t required per se, it certainly can open some doors, even for BSE students. The experience was incredible and he gained significant proficiency in the language in just a month.
