I was considering self-studying for AP French next year with a friend, since it's not offered at our school, but my French teacher tried talking us out of it by saying that it would be better to wait to take a placement exam in college, since it's cheaper and can even place you in a higher level class than taking the AP exam would--and they often make you take the placement exam, anyway. Can anyone tell me how true this is? Would self-studying for AP French really not be worth it?

AP French is possibly one of the hardest APs out there, even native French speakers have trouble. So good luck to you if you choose to self-study!

All of the language tests are really hard. It’s (normally) easier to take a placement test and test into the 300 level than getting a 4 or 5 on the ap test.
