Which of AP Language & Composition and AP Literature & Composition do you think is the
1. easiest AP (content)?
2. most interesting AP?
3. easier in self-studying AP?
4. most leniently-curved AP?
5. easiest AP (exam)?

don’t know

Lang
Lang is an awesome class. Lit is the same as every other English course you’ve ever taken, just a little more rigorous.

I haven’t taken Lit yet, but Lang was a very interesting class for me. I learned a lot, and it can help your understanding and skills with argumentation and effective writing. However, if you really love to read, then Lit would probably be the better class. Language is mostly analysis of shorter pieces.

Lang

Subjective (I personally found Lit more interesting because I generally like literature)

Lang (less to read)

Lang (Lit has one of the harshest curves – about top 6% get 5’s, whereas Lang’s curve is more similar to those of other exams)

Lang, usually

It’s really not that simple. You have to apply a lot of skills from Lang to the Lit exam. For example, rhetorical analysis really helps for all the short selections and poems.

I self-studied both of these. I hardly knew the difference between them until the night before each exam. Even now I still get them confused and I got 5s on both. I do think people are right in saying Lit is harder overall, but I really didn’t see much of a difference. If you’re a strong English student, either should be fine for you.

I don’t think there’s that much of a difference between the exams. In all honesty, I would’ve taken them both junior year if I hadn’t been suffering from an acute spasm of laziness.

Lang

I liked Literature a bit more. I loved my teacher.

Definitely Lang.

IDK, and I’m not sure it matters that much.

Lang because there are no real reading requirements. For Lit you need to write about a novel for the third essay.

The thing is, I already have previous knowledge about topics on the Literature test because of the I.B. English class(es) I took. I’ve read about 2 or 3 of the books on the list.

I think I will take the Literature exam, as I would have teachers to go to if I wanted them to critique my essays.

And by I analyzing poems and novels and learning about literary devices and all, I think I will become a better writer in the long run. It appeals a little bit more to me.

I’m stuck between choosing either Lang or Lit. I’m not a strong english student, and I don’t plan to major in english or anything like that (engineering). Which exam do you think I can do better in without already being good at english? (of course, with just as much hard work to prepare for both). Also, which would be more beneficial for me in the future when I’m doing engineering.

In general, Lang is easier. But if you really feel that you are better at analysis and close-reading than you are at rhetoric, take Lit. But only if you really feel that way because Lit is usually considered harder.

I doubt either will be very beneficial for your engineering, but Lang deals with nonfiction, so that’s more closely related.

Thanks for your suggestions! I’m not good at either of them lol, but I think I will be quite busy since I’m taking 4 other APs as well, so maybe if I choose AP lang, it will be less work than lit right?
