ap latin

hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone here is taking ap latin, specifically the vergil (aeneid) course. I know it's not a very popular class. I'm taking it right now and exams are coming up soon but I can't find any study supplements at all for it. I really do like my teacher and she is trying her best, but it's her first year teaching the class and we are nowhere near finishing all the material we have to cover (if anyone is familiar with it, we haven't even finished book two yet... ._.)... any ideas, suggestions, advice? study aids? lol.

No amount of studying is going to help you for the exam. I'm a senior, i took the AP Latin 4 exam last year...its ridiculous. Unless you were born around 20 B.C you're gonna get a 1. The test is basically 3 sections or so dedicated to translation and analyzing random text.

lol.

that sucks.

but vergil is sorta different though. at least the free response sections are only from the aeneid. has anyone taken the vergil exam?

You haven't finished book 2???? XO

I'm not taking the AP Exam (even though it's the only one I WANT to take...ugh conflicts mutter mutter) but I can tell you that if you do want to take the test you are going to have to start self-studying NOW!

Maybe you can get together with your teacher to go over further translation once or twice a week after school. I also suggest buying a translation and at least becoming familiar with the text and the events, as well as important epic similes and poetic devices. And pray to the Roman gods and the shade of Vergil that you can translate unseen passages! Best of luck.

I am quite lucky that I stayed in Spanish Literature, which involves analytical essays and MC questions in Spanish but no more. Besides, the MC section and the first essay have no relation to what the student reads all year.

oh, I forgot to mention we're on block scheduling. so we started this class in january... still awfully slow lol.

thanks for the advice glinda! I've already read through mandelbaum's translation, and our teacher is promising sessions outside of school for those who are interested.

I Took The Vergil Exam! re: my first post

Isn't there another version of the AP Latin Test that deals with Horace/Catullo? Is that any more difficult than the Vergil exam?

yeah, that's the AP Latin Literature course. don't know if it's any harder/easier though...
