AP Latin

This was my third year taking AP Latin. (loveee it... I'm majoring in Classics in college)... I took the Cicero/Catullus course this year and got a 5 and I have a 5 on Vergil from last year. My class did well this year too... everyone got 3+ although there weren't as many 5's as I expected. My school's Latin curriculum is getting all reworked now because of the loss of AP Latin Lit... it'll be interesting to see how everything works out.

it is definitely NOT the hardest ap. i think that title goes to the ap spanish language.

a 5 isnt godly...this test really depends on the quality of your teacher. in my class of 10 in vergil last year, eight of us got 5s, and the other two were lazy and got 4s. your teacher sets the pace, gives you valuable information, and is the final translator.

^ Totally agree with that. Our school has only one AP Latin teacher, and every year she alternates between Vergil and Latin Literature. Last year 14 people took the Vergil test. 12 people got 5's and 2 got 4's. I wonder how this year's students did.

INVENIAMVIAM: If you're that concerned, you should probably ask them to rescore it. No guarantees though.

enigma025: Yeah, my Latin teacher's disappointed by that. I think she's thinking of doing the British A-Levels exams or something like that now.

Yeah, this is a pain. My daughter is taking Latin IV next year as a junior (which is essentially Latin Lit light at her school). AP Latin is limited to seniors at her school. Because of the termination of AP Latin Lit, she may self-study with her teacher's assistance along with some of the other more rabid Latin students and take the Latin Lit AP exam anyway. That way she can still pick up AP exams for both Lit and Vergil which she would take as AP Latin in her senior year. And no, she has no intention of majoring in Classics.

Doesn't collegeboard look and see if you got every definition of the Latin word correctly? I took the IB and they look at it much more detailed i know that the AP is much easier when it comes to grading.

Thanks for all the responses everyone, it's nice to know there are others out there who like Latin, or at least take the APs ;]

I took Latin Lit this year and plan on taking Vergil next year.
