I know this thread probably has been done a thousand times on CC, but I can't really find one or havent seen one since I have joined CC.
So how many APs are too many. Whats ur max?
How many APs should you take each year?
How many should you self study?
How many APs did you take? Which ones which years?

well… I took 1 freshman yr, 2 sophomore yr, 6 this year(unless you count physics c as 2 because of the 2 exams) and going to take 6 next year(unless you count gov and econ as 2 but they are half yr courses). none were self studied.

our school maxes you on 4 if you have a really high gpa. 3 if you have a decent gpa.
but all our aps need recs from the normal classes of the ap you want to take.

anyone else have any opinions/ stats?

hit it hard sopho and junior year (4+), chill (2-3 aps) your senior year (take a few, 1-3, as a fresh if you can just to get a taste, but don’t eff your life and possibly your grades by biting off more than you can chew)

Well our school doesn’t allow you to take AP’s until Junior year.
So I’ll be taking 4 next year, and 5 or 6 senior year. I’m not quiteee sure though.

My school makes you take APs.
You have to take 4 APs sophomore year, 5 junior year, and 6 senior year. There’s no max limit, you can spend your electives on AP classes if you wish.
It’s really stupid, a lot of students can’t handle this and fail out of the school.

My school doesn’t allow APs until junior year, and they’re worth extra credits, so the maximum you can take is five, but other required courses and schedule conflicts make that extremely difficult. No self-studies, either, so you would need to go to a different school to take the test.

There’s no limit at our school
My friend took 8 her junior year

my school doesn’t limit you but the master schedule does, basically i signed up for 4 ap classes but two conflicted so i ended up with only 3 ap classes

There is no limit for me, just you need recommendations.

No limit, although you can’t take APs until junior year (and even then, there are only a few choices). Of course, for many classes there are huge scheduling conflicts that can limit things.

As far as I know my school doesn’t have a limit but they advise against it once you start signing up for 4 or more, depending on the student. I took 5 this year- 4 at school and 1 self-study.

Our school doesn’t have a limit but sometimes scheduling conflicts can keep you from taking certain classes

@madogmgd- 8? She must have been swamped!
How many APs are you guys taking?

Our school encourages AP taking, but doesn’t force. Any exam can be taken; our AP Coordinator organizes everything.

I took 4 AP classes both sophomore and junior years. I took 4 AP tests sophomore year and 9 AP tests junior year (probably the record or close to the record at my school).

I don’t feel like there has to be a limit set by anybody but yourself. Every person has his/her own limit for storing knowledge and a unique ability (or lack of ability) when it comes to taking standardized tests in general. I will say, though, that self-studying for the sake of improving a resume/transcript isn’t very good. Self-study something because you’re either very interested or because you have a solid background in the subject already (native speaker of a language for foreign language tests, strong musical background for Music Theory, et cetera).

My school starts to discourage after 3. Sophomores are prevented from taking more than one, excluding Human Geo. and rare circumstances (native Spanish speaker, already took English 10, etc.). I’m going to take at five classes next year. I might self-study a few more, probably Eng. Lang., CS, Psych, and the Econ tests. Maybe even Physics B. I may have to go to another school if my school doesn’t let me.
Since my school pays for AP tests that are taken in a course, I only have to pay $450
Let’s see, that’s Lit, Lang, CS, Psych, Macro, Micro, Calc, Bio, Comp Gov, US Gov, APUSH, and (maybe) Physics B. To the study cave, Robin!

ETA: On second thought, lets drop Psych. Total is $375 now, and only 11 tests. And I might not go through with Lang, CS, and/or Physics. which could bring it down to $150 and 8 tests

my school allows as many that fit in the schedule, but pre-recs and recommendations from teachers are required.

because of pre-recs its impossible for a freshman to take any aps, only possible for a sophomore to take 1-2, and up to 5 for juniors.

seniors usually have all recs done and can take any

i took 1 sophomore year, 3 junior, and am going to be taking 6 senior year (7 if you count physics c as two classes)

At my school that would be $1080.

Not including the extra $50 you have to pay to enroll in an AP class.

In my school you can take as many as you want. In freshman year your limited to one; AP Human Geo, in sophomore you can take as many as you want, same junior and Senior year. Next year i’ll be a junior and will be taking 5.
