So, do most of u taking AP Lit know what novel you're using no matter what the prompt is for the 3rd essay? I'm going in with "Beloved" unless the prompt has anything to do with nature: "Cold Mountain" ;)

I highly doubt it.

I have selected a few from which I will decide depending on the prompt.

Crime and Punishment + Heart of Darkness + Eyes were Watching God... Those will be my three bullets.

Lord of the Rings...everything goes with that! or if not then what we've read in class...Frankenstein, Emma, etc.

Last year it was something obscure like "country setting"
What if it will be something random this year and none of "my" books will fit into it? I just know I will end up using some novel without knowing any of its characters' names.

I have some books from Mistry, Pamuk and others..none of that boring 19th-century stuff, lol

I'm going with six books - The Awakening, The Great Gatsby, Poisonwood Bible, Invisible Man, 1984, The Importance of Being Earnest - that, hopefully, will cover pretty much everything.

invisible man, hamlet, who's afraid of virginia woolfe?, and long day's journey into night...i know all of them cold

can we be penalized if we don't use a book from the list they provide? i mean, they DO say that it has to be a work of "comparable literary merit"

I thought this year they didnt have a list?

I'm hoping it works with Heart of Darkness, because thats the one book I know everything on. There are others that I have the main idea and themes for, but the actual parts of the story aren't very fresh in my head. I had to do worksheets on 12 novels for my class, so I'm probably going to skim those tonight to try and help. Overall though, I'm not too worried about the essays. My teacher is an ass that grades them ridiculously tough, and when I saw the sample scoring on the AP website I was shocked. I would've gotten a 7/8/9 on all my essays that he graded as 5/6.

I'm going in the exam knowing only 3 PLAYS (not even novels):

Hedda Gabler--Ibsen
Blood Wedding--Lorca
Mother Courage--Brecht

And if needs be, i can always refer to Death of a Salesman

Gonna do heavy review tonight on Equus, Jude the Obscure, and Prayer for Owen Meany. I don't know why I picked those three, I guess I just liked them and feel like they could apply to a lot of things? Teacher says you can use Equus for almost ANYTHING. She also said that an AP grader told her if they had to read another Hamlet essay they'd gouge their eyes out, so I'd warn against using that one. EVERYONE uses it, so they're going to grade harder.

Siddhartha
1984
Brave New World
The Jungle
Native Son
Macbeth
Othello
Death of Ivan Illyich

any of those will do

what sites are good for reviewing books?

hmm
just picked up a review book an hour ago (self-studying....ehhh)
definitely seems like this will be the hardest part, i havent really read anything in the past year so i'll probably just end up sparknoting a lot of the books i read in the past and just going with whatever fits.

i noticed that one year they had one that was like, write about a book that includes a wedding, funeral, or party, so it seems like it's better to have a few books handy in case they choose something restrictive like that...

the rest seems pretty much like the SAT, right?

heck yes, either the awkening, dorian gray, or little women. but i'm kinda iffy on little women becuase some ppl i've talked to said its not a classic....that it's a kids book? what do you guys think?

Backfire, my teacher has been one of the Lit graders for some years and she said it's really hard to get a good score if you use Siddhartha for most prompts.

im going in with one book

Hamlet

FTW!
