How common/uncommon is it for a highschool to put AP Lit before AP Lang? Because that's how my high school does it and I just noticed :P

Ours had AP Lit and Language in one class. It’s really unnecessary to take both. We all took both tests and the majority of us passed both.

We only have AP Lit and for Spanish, we also only have AP Spanish Lit. I’m in both. My school blows that we don’t have AP Spanish Lang. since that’s definitely more useful and easier. I’d guess though that there really isn’t much of a difference at all between AP English Lit and Lang.

It’s slightly unusual. At my school:
AP Lang = junior year, lots of learning about the format of the test, learning vocab, reading passages and essay writing
AP Lit = senior year, lots of reading, acting, fun activities…and doing actual AP-prep stuff in the month before the exam.

At my school we have AP lang before AP lit. However, I think it varies by school. I don’t necessarily think it’s better to have one before the other. I just believe that as long as you get through both of them, you’ll be fine:)

My school doesn’t have APs but I’m taking AP Lit online–never took AP lang.

Really uncommon I guess. The AP Lit exam is so much more difficult than the Lang exam, so it’d be a walk in the park your next time around.

We have a choice at my school, and I went with AP Lit and learned a lot. Now I’m taking AP Lang & Comp and pwned the last essay we wrote

Our school goes AP Literature then AP Language.

At my school, Lang is open to juniors and seniors. Lit is open to all seniors, even if they haven’t taken Lang. Still, most people who take Lit have taken Lang before, but I do know one or two in Lit now without having taken Lang.

To me, it makes more sense to have Lang before Lit. In a way, Lang is more “practical” and Lit is more for people who really enjoy literature and lit analysis.
