AP Lit

I took the AP Lang exam this year and received a 5. Should I go ahead with taking AP Lit next year, or would that be somewhat unnecessary (in terms of receiving credits in college)?

In my experience, the English course you will be seeing during your first semester can be covered with AP Language. But then again, I will be studying engineering and I won’t see many English classes at all. If you are going to major in literature or something like that, then you might want to do both and get some more credits. But as far as I know, Language works just fine

At my school, most people take both. I would check the credit transfer/by exam policy for colleges that you are interested in. My #1 choice for next year takes either one of them for an english elective credit. So if you take both (and pass the exam obviously) , you will honestly just get the same credit. I already have my college english credit (did it from DE), but I’m taking AP Lit next year. Colleges will still see your grade in the class. If it interests you then take it. If it doesn’t and you want the credit, don’t bother.

Ok, thanks for the advice! The seniors at my school aren’t big fans of the AP Lit teachers (that’s really actually an understatement), so that’s why I wouldn’t want to take it. I’m just wondering if it would affect my course rigor for college apps if I take honors English instead of AP Lit, especially since I took AP Lang this past year.

Also, would it be worth self studying for the exam even if I don’t take the class?
