AP Macro/Micro Self Study

Hello.

I would like to self study AP Micro/AP Micro Economics this upcoming school year.

Is the economics section on Khan Academy and the Princeton Review book enough to get a 5 on these exams?

Thanks!

Principles of Economics by Mankiw. Available at great discounts if you know where to look.

Is it necessary to get the latest edition of Principles of Economics, or will any edition do? I’ve done a cursory overview of different editions of the book and it seems like the latest edition (6th) has some extra sections like: The Economics of the Public Sector, Firm Behavior and the Organization of Industry, and the Economics of Labor Markets. The other editions lack these sections and won’t necessarily contain the information.

I am taking Macro this upcoming year and I too have bought the Princeton Review because of what people have said about it on here. BUT my brother took this class previously and I did show him the Khan Academy section, he said that only a very small portion of the videos actually applied to what he was studying.

I have Principles of Economics by Mankiw downloaded on a PDF, would you like it? I thought about reading it but I absolutely hate reading books on my desktop. BTW, are you only self-studying or are you taking an online class?

@Mohhand: YES! Could you please send me the book? And I’m planning on self studying it… Haven’t really given much thought to the material.

I messaged you the links to 5 Steps to a 5 AND Principles of Macroeconomics by Mankiw

@Mohhand: Sorry I did not receive your message.

You should be fine without a textbook so there’s no need to go get one (unless you enjoy reading it).

I don’t think Khan is very helpful for AP Econ though. Try Reffonomics.

Thanks 4khaos for Reffonomics. I really appreciate when people like who have a wealth of information share it with us underlings! :)

I self studied using PR and got 4s on both. Worse decision of my life. Taking two exams on one day is both taxing and confusing.

Taking two exams can be difficult if you don’t prepare for them - that is, whenever you take practice exams for Econ, take Macro first, then Micro after a 10-30 minute break. On the real exam day, you’ll probably have an hour or so before Micro begins at noon since the Econ tests are relatively short.

Since they are relatively short, it’s nothing compared to taking Bio and Physics, though.

Can you send me the PDF file too? I’m planning on self studying Micro/Macro but I don’t have many books to study for it:(

Would taking macro/micro at my local community college over the summer and doing an ap prep book sufficiently prepare me for the AP test?

I was doing some research on this approach. Can take micro at a community college this summer for little $$. Course is 3.5 hours once a week for 6 weeks. Seems like a good use of time and money if it covers a reasonable amount of what will be on the exam. Will be helpful to know if others have had success with this approach.
