AP Macro/Micro (self-study)

Hello fellow CC members,

I am looking for an AP Macroeconomics and an AP Microeconomics textbook that I could use to self-study for the AP examination. Please post any recommendations: books, tips you used to study, study habits, how many hours per week/total it took you to study, etc.

My school does not currently offer AP Macro or AP Micro but this semester (2 semesters per year) I am currently enrolled in an economics that is focused on microeconomics and next semester I will be taking an economics class that is predominantly macroeconomics. Both these classes go over most of the concepts that I would see on the AP besides most of the mathematical application of these concepts. I'm taking Math Analysis Calc Honors w/ an A in the class(prerequisite for AP Calc), so I know I can handle the mathematics portion of economics.

Thanks in advance! :)

The only math you need for AP Economics is arithmetic. Go to the collegeboard’s site and look at the topics that will be on the test. If the classes you are in cover all those, you should be fine.

Hey thanks for responding, just wondering did you take both AP Macro/AP Mirco?
If so, how’d you do and did you self-study or did your school offer a course?

I took both and got 2 5’s. I did not self-study, my school offered a course.

Thank you, do you remember what textbook you used and did you also use a prep book (Princeton Review/Barrons/etc) as a supplement as well?

The only math in there is counting, midpoint formula, easy stuff…

Get 5 steps to a 5, you should be set.

I didn’t use a prep book, and the text I used was the one by Paul Krugman (don’t remember the title of the book). Not sure if that textbook is any good though; no one in my class ever did the readings.

If you want a textbook, go with Economics by McConnell and Brue.

Haven’t bought a review book yet because I just use my teacher’s outline.
