AP Macro or Micro Self Study

Is AP Micro or Macro easier to self study?

I am not only doing this to impress colleges (although that’s part of it), I have a genuine interest in economics and plan to major in economics in college.

Also how much time does it take to self study one of these courses? From my understanding they are half year courses and only take up a semester usually. However, I am not sure as my school does not offer AP Econ.

If you are interested in Economics, then take both exams. Macro has a bit more math, while Micro is a lot more theory. Both inclde graphs (which are really important). Honestly, they take no more than two weeks (one for micro and one for macro).

Well, it should be none of it since colleges are not impressed.

For me, I took the class for macro and self studied micro. I thought macro was easier, but neither one of them I would consider to be overwhelming.

If your goal is to pass the test, about a week is fine. If you actually want to learn something, you’d need a bit more time.

@skieurope Wow really! Only a week to self study? How long would you allot for self studying Macro but aiming for a 5?

Do you think if I did like an hour a week starting now until May, it would be plenty of time to get a 5 on ONLY Macro??

Probably; I spent less than a semester (about 10 weeks) self studying micro and I ended up with a 5.

@JoeSmith15 I studied each in one week and got 5 on both. You can definitely do it

I self-studied for both and got a 5 on both. It’s doable and they are both probably the easier of all the AP tests.

What books did those of you who self-studied use?

Definitely go for the Princeton Review for both Econ exams - concise enough for self study yet comprehensive enough to get a 5.
