AP Macroeconomics Self-Study

Hi all,

I am a junior this year and I am taking AP Microeconomics. While talking with a friend today, he said he was going to take AP Microeconomics and self-study AP Macroeconomics.

Now, thinking to myself, I was wondering if this was a good idea. In that way, I will be able to open up an elective period for some other course in senior year. In our school, it is rumored that AP Microeconomics is much easier than AP Macroeconomics.

So, would you recommend self-studying AP Macroeconomics? Is it feasible? Also, if I do self-study AP Macroeconomics, what materials would I need? I do have the McConnell Economics 17 book which my teacher said has both microeconomics and macroeconomics. I would probably need a review book, but which one?

Thanks ahead of time.

Well I haven’t done AP Micro or AP Macro since most of my education was in Jamaica but I have taken A-level classes in both Micro & Macro (I wanna be an Econ major in college). If you are competent in AP Micro then AP Macro shouldn’t be a problem to self-study if you give yourself enough time. Technically I had to teach myself both Micro & Macroeconomics because I had a crappy teacher and I got A’s on both exams :)

Micoeconomics tends to lay a foundation for Macroeconomics as a huge chunk of Macroeconomics is demand & supply analysis. I just moved to the US and I plan to self-study both AP Micro & Macroeconomics since i got to a crappy high school that only has two AP classes. I’m not sure if this will help but this is the book I used in Jamaica.

[Amazon.com: Economics: Principles and Policy (9780324586206): William J. Baumol, Alan S. Blinder: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Economics-Principles-William-J-Baumol/dp/0324586205)

It covers Microeconomics and Macroeconomics extensively and possibly includes materials that won’t be tested on the AP exam. Good Luck!

If you are looking for a prep book for AP Macroeconomics, then I recommend the Princeton Review because it’s comprehensive and covers most of the information that will probably show up on the AP exam. I self-studied both Micro and Macro with this book, and I ended up with a 5 on both exams.

Hello,I was wondering would it be a good idea for a freshman to take AP Macro in online?

For the AP exam, use PR as your guide. If you want more in-depth understanding, use your textbook.

So a thorough understanding of PR is enough for 5s on both tests? The books seems really thin.

^ I’d take their advice with a grain of salt. According to them you can pass BOTH micro and macro with the PR books? hahahahaha. The PR book only has 100 pages of review for BOTH the macro and micro exams. Don’t kid yourself, the exam isn’t that easy!
