I’ve read through 7 pages on the 2015-2016 AP Score Results Thread is my kid the only one that took the AP Music Theory Test? She got a 4 total with a 3 Aural and 5 Non-Aural. I’d like to tell her that she’s not the only one that boomed the Aural… anyone???
I’ve seen that thread too. Nobody really takes A.P. Music Theory. It’s such a shame. I received a 5 on both parts but then again I’ve had 8 years of piano. Also, a 4 or 5 is GREAT for this year’s exam. This year, the A.P. Music Theory score distribution was the following -
2016 AP Music Theory packets: 5: 18.1%; 4: 17.2%; 3: 24.2%; 2: 26%; 1: 14.5%.
This year, the amount of people that received 3’s and higher went down by about 2%.
I got 5s on all parts and a 5 overall. I’ve been playing violin for over 11 years though. does she have a lot of music experience?
She’s been playing harp for 8 years but never had piano. This was the first year her high school teacher had taught AP Music Theory, he had been a middle school band teacher so I think that may have something to do with it.
Then a four is amazing! I completely understand what it’s like as my A.P. Music Theory teacher this year got moved from an elementary school this year and she has never taught it before. She had a LOT of trouble teaching the course (which is not her fault) but I think that most of my class probably got 1’s-3’s as a result. Your daughter shouldn’t feel bad about that score because it’s not an easy exam. The ear training section can be brutal if you don’t have perfect pitch.
If I didn’t have prior theory lessons before this year, I would’ve done terrible on the exam.
