So, for those who are taking the AP Music Theory exam on Monday, come here so we can cram on all the written material (since it's impossible to cram for aural online).

Oh no, music theory. I have been doing part writing all day, and i cant stop using augmented 2nds, and frequently forget to resolve leading tones correctly on my first run through... anger

wow you guys really take AP Music Theory??

isn't that mad hard? unless you're really into music or majoring in it..

Music theory isnt THAT hard... well, aural sections are, but non-aural is really easy, except you may make a mistake or two in part-writing. ANd you get to sing. But if you hate music, it would pretty hard... And i have two questions for people who are taking or have taken. 1) How is the bass composition graded (for q7)? 2) How are you all preparing/ did prepare for aural sections of the test (MC and FR, minus released tests)? Im kinda confused on how to do it. You can only do good-ear.com for so long, and its not the same as a melodic/ harmonic dictation...

I have done some practice AP's with listening and non-listening. My issue is that as a woodwind player, I am not truly accustomed to hearing chords so my harmonic dictation is not so great. My melodic is pretty decent, but I have a hard time hearing some intervals.

The written is much easier, but I always get caught with parallel 5ths and octaves inbetween the bass and soprano (I forget to check those two because they are so far apart).

Should be an interesting test to take at 8:30 in the morning on Monday.

Best of luck to all!

8:30 is pretty early for music theory... CB doesnt exactly pick the most energizing music for the examples either... oh well... by the way, if someone has taken the test from the course description, could you tell me the name of the folk song at the end... i cant get it out of my head, i just love it... i like a lot of the pieces they choose for the test. too bad they dont give the names of the examples... sigh, back to studying

lol That's the only AP that I didn't take which I took a class for. Secondary dominance was just a nightmare which I just never got.

secondary dominance is kinda evil, but its suprisingly useful when you finally get it. Speaking of secondary dominants, if there is secondary dominance with a seventh chord, is the third supposed to be raised like in triads, or do we have to mess with the seventh as well? Once i get that, I will be good with secondary dominance.

Holy cow. I'm basically giving up on this test. I take it early hour, and the teacher is so cool that we've basically been watching movies all year. Once he brought in something off Animal Planet, it was some bird that could imitate anything it heard; it did a kookaburra, a car alarm and chainsaws. Needless to say, test-takers are in the minority. But it's not like you can get college credit anywhere for it, and if I don't want to be a music major, no biggie, right?
