AP Music Theory Exam

i plan to major in music and as a step towards that i plan to take the upcoming music exam in may. the sad part is that my school does not have such a class and so i don't know wut the structure of the test is and wut else will be tested in it besides theory and singing... feed backs from those who took the test already would really help

i would try www.collegeboard.com to find it....i dont remember what exactly the mult choice section was. The written section has a part where you write in the bass line when the other three are written. There is roman numeral analysis. There is composing based on the roman numerals. THere is sight singing and dictation. Also there is a part where it slowly plays a soprano and bass part an d you have to dictate it and provide roman numeral analysis. You definitely need to get a book for help if you really are planning on doing it without the class. It will be pretty hard. Good Luck.

thanks for the info... but i was wondering what books i would need... like im already taking lessons from my piano teacher on theory and i passed the cm (certificate of merit) and im on level 9 out of 10... so do u think that the theory books im using now for the cm might cover the exam?

i'm in a similar position, even though i don't plan on majoring in music, though music is one of my passions... my piano teacher recommended a music theory tutor to me and a college textbook...

i did CM level 10 theory, and that only covered maybe half of the material at most. It provides good background, but there are much more advanced stuff like harmonization, voicing, listening, etc.
