It’s that time of the year again where students start enrolling in their courses for the following year. I was thinking about taking my first AP course, and I came across “AP Music Theory.” I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about this course. Some say the final exam is insanely hard and the course work is too difficult to get a passing grade. Some other people have said “it’s a must for music students.” So I have decided to reach out into the community about this course. What have you’re experiences with this course been like? Is it truly one of the “hardest” AP classes you can take? Did you do well on the AP exam?
I guess it depends on your interests your background and your school. Ap music theory was notoriously a blow of class at my school but when it came down to preparing for the ap exam then things got really tough as there is a lot to learn. It was my first ever 3 on an ap exam and honestly I’m surprised I didn’t fail it. It takes a ton of practice to really perfect the aural sub section. As for the multiple choice if you have been a music student for years before that shouldn’t be much of an issue at all
