Hey guys!
I’ll be a sophomore this fall and I can’t decide whether or not I want to take AP Physics 1 or AP Physics C (Mechanics) next year. Starting this fall, our school’s replacing the honors physics course with AP Physics 1, so most of the people taking physics next year are taking that. However, since I’m taking AP Calc AB this fall also, my guidance counselor and the AP physics teacher said I could take Physics C if I wanted to. However, I haven’t taken a regular high school physics course before…I’ve only reviewed some basics of physics in 8th grade, and I was able to grasp the concepts quickly (if that even counts lol) I’m good at math, but definitely I’m not a math genius. What do you guys think? Is it manageable to take C or would I be better off taking 1?
Since you’re taking calculus anyway, you should try physics c. There are plenty of resources online and in study books to help you. My class has a lot of students who never took any prior physics and they’re doing just fine.
Ask your GC whether Physics C will take place at the same time as Physics 1, therefore making it easy to “drop down” if necessary. If not, ask the way “dropping down” (if necessary) can be done. Physics C is hardcore.
Take AP Physics 1, Physics C is a senior class at my school. I’m in a similar dilemma; I will be a Junior come Sept, but I’m taking Calc BC…so I CAN take Physics C, but I don’t think I could handle Physics C and AP Chem (my other elective). So I’m going to take Physics 1 and chem. Good luck!
btw calc BC goes w/ physics C, not Calc AB @ my school
Since it’s only mechanics and not E&M, I’d say try Physics C and as @MYOS1634 says, drop down if necessary.
And that’s your school; others, like mine, differ. The amt. of calculus that you need is not that extensive. Concurrent AB is fine IMO.
