I am taking AP Physics 1 this year and was wondering what review book I should buy to help me in my studies and the exam in May. I’ve read a lot of forums that have said that last year’s books were not very helpful, so I was wondering if anyone had gotten a 2016 review book already and would like to suggest it for this year’s exam prep. Thank you so much in advance.
I used 5 steps to a 5 and my teacher’s review sheets. 5 steps was apparently the only one released that was written by a College Board employee, so you can be sure that most of the information is accurate. I wouldn’t recommend it for reviewing concepts (it does describe them, but not very thoroughly IMO), but I think that the practice questions were pretty helpful
@Ali101 thank you so much! Would you suggest anything else for review such as videos or websites?
There are some helpful videos about physics on YouTube that can help refresh your memory or clarify a couple of concepts, but Youtube wasn’t a huge resource for me for physics. My studying mostly involved me going over my notes, going to review sessions, and finding good AP physics 1 practice questions off of google.
I am using AP Physics 1 Essentials. I have heard that it was the best!
I used AP Physics 1 Essentials last year. Very good book, but make sure you understand the concepts as that book goes a lot into the calculations while there are few problems on the AP test that actually require a calculator.
Most of them are something along the lines of “if the weight if reduced by half, then…” and so on.
Make sure you understand graphs and such.
I’d suggest that you stay away from any of the big publishers (Barrons, Princeton) books that are from last year. The Collegeboard changed a few things (calculator policy, for example) after those books were published. Try to get 2016 books when they come out.
