So I’m a bit worried about taking AP Physics 1 for my junior year (Along with 3 other AP’s, Lang, APUSH, Psychology) as I have had no prior experience with Physics whatsoever. Is anyone currently enrolled in AP Physics 1 that has some insight on it in terms of Pacing and difficulty of the concepts to understand? Also how much time does the class consume? As Lang and especially APUSH are very time consuming in my school (I know this varies from to school to school) Thanks!
I took AP Physics I and am currently taking AP Physics II! It is very difficult, I also had no prior physics experience so I struggled for the first few weeks. However, it does get much easier to deal with later on. Depending on the teacher, your hw amount will vary. But to be on the safe side, assume you will get 1-2 hours every night. (This is what my teacher did). Extremely fast paced and includes a unit last year’s AP Physics B people did not have to learn (rotational motion). However, it is a good experience, especially if you are interested in STEM. It is also the prerequisite to AP Physics II, which I can tell you is awesome and highly recommended! :D. Not many colleges take AP Physics I since it is algebra based and not calculus based, but if you want a good foundation of physics then definitely take it! Most schools require physics as a class to graduate so you could also take AP Physics instead of regular physics to satisfy the required credit. Its a lot of work and confusion, but work through it, study hard and you should be fine! Especially if you are decent or strong in math.
Some topics you do in ap physics i:
Kinematics
Forces
Rotational motion
Electricity
Things you do not go over in ap physics i that are in ap physics ii:
Nuclear physics
Fluids
Thermodynamics
Optics
Good luck!
