AP Physics a necessity?

My school might not offer AP Physics this year. I know schools keep the school's situation in mind, but will I be disadvantaged in applying to top 20's if I take regular (no choice)?

If you can’t take the class, school’s won’t expect you to. Just make sure the rest of your schedule is strong. Maybe replace physics with another AP science if you’re concerned about your schedule’s rigor.

Do 4 other APs justify it? I think I shouldn’t take AP Bio since I should have the 3 essential sciences somewhere on the transcript, even if it is just CP (I took AP Chem last year)

If they do cancel the AP class and you take and do well in the regular physics class you may impress schools by taking, and also doing well, on the AP Physics exam and/or SAT II exam in the spring.

If you don’t do well on one or both the AP or SAT II you aren’t obligated to report AP scores and if you are applying to schools that require SAT II’s you could substitute another science.

My son did really well on the SAT II despite taking just honors physics (our school doesn’t offer AP Physics). He plans to take the AP Physics exam next year.

I just found out that they do offer AP Physics, but it doesn’t indicate AP on my schedule. I might go tomorrow and fix the problem.

@HuxleyAlum, I’m a senior :frowning: It’s too late to take the exams in time for applications. Thanks for the advice, though!
