AP Physics C + Chem... Significant Figures?

Is significant figures imperative for these tests. Often, the Chem is hard to get the exact answer as posted by collegeboard, because sometimes they offer only 1 point for multiple steps, and my rounding always differs slightly from theirs in between those calculations. My instinct is that if the setup and substitutions are correct, they won't mind the final answer's sig figs, but can anyone attest or disprove that?

It’s ±1 sig fig from the answer they have.

My teacher in AP Chem said: MC questions-no need for sig. figs because its obvious…and essays/FR questions they’ll take off a point or two.
