AP Physics C Grading

I'm just curious about what this class is like for other CC'ers.

I'm used to a very traditional 93-100 = A, 90-92 = A-, etc. grading scale for classes.

But, luckily for our AP Physics C class, we get tests(which are 14 released multiple choice questions + 2 free responses) that are scaled such that
5 = 55-90 out of 90 which is put in as 100% in the grade book(highest possible A)
And then 4 is highest possible B+(86% in this case since it's a 13 point scale for his class), and then the same thing for C, D, and F.

I get 5's fairly easily on these tests, but if it were 90/80/70 grading, it would be REALLY hard (though since tests are only 40% of the grade, it would still be doable). I was just curious if this style of grading is the norm, and, if not, how it would work for others. It would seem awfully cruel to give AP Physics tests on a 90/80/70 scale unless they weren't actually AP-style questions.

Well, in all honesty you’re not going to find 90/80/70 classes all that often in college. Some harder classes are graded on a curve, others have lower cutoffs for A, B, etc.

My AP physics class has a 90/80/70 conventional grading system. He uses questions that are at the same level as collegeboard, which is why the class is considered one of the hardest in the school. Regardless, it makes people work harder and nearly everyone gets a 5 on the AP test.

Edit: unfortunately, tests are 80% of our grade :(

Quizzes (out of 12):
A 95: 9-12
B 85: 7-8
C 75: 5-6
D 65: 3-4
E 50: 0-2

Tests (out of 45):
A 95: 29-44 (45 points is an 100%)
B 85: 22-28
C 75: 14-21
D 65: 10-13
E 50: 0-9

Your school has E’s??

My school just did it the normal way other high school classes are graded.

At our school, AP Physics grades on the conventional 10 point scale - however, if you bomb the tests despite putting forth a lot of effort, the teacher will adjust the weight of tests for your cumulative grade - so for some people, tests are 25% but for other people, its like 14% or so.

E is instead of F!

Mine is scaled to the AP. Highest score receives a 100, those in 5 range receive a 95, those in 4 range receive an 85, so on and so forth.

why though

Ask my school/county. I have no clue
