Is it possible for me to self study for the AP Physics C Mechanics exam. I took AP Physics 1 last year and did well, but this year I decided not to take Physics C, which I now regret. Is it possible for me to self-study for the exam with a prep book and my knowledge from Physics 1?
I would also like to know. I am pretty good at Calc. I would only take the Mechanics AP. What are the best books?
Self-study what if often recognized as one of the most rigorous AP classes in only two months? Don’t stress over it. You only have two months until this exam, and I HIGHLY don’t recommend it at this point unless you already know the content. AP Physics 1 helps, but AP Physics C involves a lot more mathematics and critical thinking. Wait next year to self-study. If you are otherwise very dedicated toward the self-studying the course, then I recommend Fundamentals of Physics textbook with Princeton’s review book for AP Physics C. I have at least 10 practice exams if you would like me to share them. It will take A LOT of your time if you even want a passing score let alone a 5.
Sure you can self study but you should know that many colleges want you to actually have taken the class if they are to give you credit for it so it might not be worth it. However, it would look good on an application if you score a 4 or 5.
@amy989 Actually, colleges go by AP scores rather than grades in the class in terms of college credit. In order to receive credit in AP Physics C, you would need a passing score of at least a 3 in some classes but as high as a 5. MIT, for example, offers credit for Physics I if the student manages to get a 5 on BOTH AP Physics C Mechanics AND E&M exams.
@ObitoSigma Thanks, I am going to take it more for myself than college. (I am a senior so it doesn’t really matter) I took an underwhelming course load this year. (Something I regret) I enjoy challenges, I just wanted to know if it is possible.
