AP Physics C prereqs

Hello

One of my goals is to graduate high school with a credit in AP Physics C. What pre-requisites are required/recommended for this course? Can I do AP Physics 1 and then directly do AP Physics C? Or am I also required/recommended to take AP Physics 2 after AP Physics 1?

(Reposting this here as I had incorrectly posted in another thread. I already got one helpful response, would be great to hear how others have gone through the high school Physics pathway.)

Thanks

It is best to look at your High School’s Course Catalog. The requirements can vary from school to school. At my DS HS, there is no Physics requirement for APP-C, just math requirements. On another post on CC, the poster said that their school had a AP Physics 2 prereq.

As far as I know, there are no specific prerequisites. I knew a HS that does not require any physics for AP Physics C.
My kid took AP Physics 1 before attempting AP Physics C. In our HS, AP Physics C includes both mechanics and E&M, but some high schools separate them into 2 different courses.
I suggest you check with your own HS.

That’s basically the answer.

The common prerequisite is an intro course in physics (it does not have to be AP Physics 1) and well as a concurrent course in calculus. But HSs can set its own prereqs.

And you posted it in the wrong thread the second time, too. Threads merged and moved to correct location.

Thank you for the responses (and moving the post!) My school seems to “recommend” but not require, 2 full years of physics before signing up for AP Physics C in senior year. I think I’ll now be able to talk to my counselor and see if only AP Physics 1 will be okay. This will help me free up my schedule for other courses. Thank you!
