Ok I haven't taken honors physics, nor honors chemistry. I really want to (also recommended by the teachers) to take one of the APs among these two. Which one should I take? Please don't say none. It's not a choice. so AP physics or AP chemistry, no honors class preceding them. Talk from experience. Thanks.

btw I like them both from the little knowledge I’ve had. I am also willing to work at the chosen one in the summer, and work hard at it. I have good family support because my parents are science (physics and chemistry) professors.

If you don’t take any honors before any of them, well you’ll have some trouble keeping up. But if you can handle it, then go for it.

AP Physics B without taking honors first should be manageable. I wouldn’t do that with Chemistry or Physics C though

Go with AP Physics B. Its basically like honors physics.

Yeah don’t do AP Chemistry, AP Physics B is just algebra and a little trig and it’s easier.

AP Physics C w/o honors would suck! Dont do that

I’m taking AP Physics C w/o honors next year. Actually that’s a very normal thing to do at my school; the vast majority of students in that class never take any Physics class before they take C. But I think the teaching style at my school accommodates that.

If you feel very strong as a science student, you could probably handle Chem. I took AP the year after I took Honors and I definitely needed the Honors background. I think Physics B is the best choice.

Physics B at my college will get you credit, but does not skip a class–it’s algebra based. Chemistry does have the class skip and completes more units. I even felt that Chem was easier, so go with that.

Don’t take AP Chem without chem honors. I heard AP Physics B is the same thing as Honors Physics just a little more and faster

Took ap chem with just regular chem before it and ap physics without previous physics, it’s not that bad either way. Personally, I thought physics was easier.

Depends on what physics you are talking about. Physics B should be easier with no previous physics experience. Physics C and Chem without any previous experience will kill you

I took AP Chem without taking any Chem before (honors or regular) and still succeeded (5 and A), and I took AP Physics B without any Physics before, and had the same results. With that said, both are possible, and from experience, Physics is a heck of a lot easier.

Thanks all.

OMG Und3rC0ver, Thank you thank you thank you. Even though I appreciate all the rest, but omg I’d love to take chem. I admire you Und and I swear if I take AP chem I’ll be like you, and if I do well, I’ll come back to thank you again.

Wow ten people advise a person, one person says something and POOF! Those ten pieces of advice are thrown out the window.

I think he just really wanted to take Chem and wanted to know if it was possible or not Niquii :)

That’s what I’m thinking, too. In that case I have some AP Chem advice: When going in make sure you know your nomenclature, basic reactions (chemical and radiation), how to balance equations, the periodic table, your basics about chemistry. It will give you a leg up in the first week.

Yeah, there was a good amount of summer work that you need to do. I believe my teacher made us memorize common polyatomic ions and read the first 4 chapters of our book (Basic info about matter, periodic table, etc.). It needs some work but is doable, especially if you’re a science person. Niquii has some great advice, and you should do fine.

Good Luck!

No NOT AT ALL Niquii! not out the window. I’m keeping them. they show me how hard I have to work and I really appreciate that. But yes I really want to take chem.

I’ll give my opinion as I took AP chem w/o the honors class. It was really difficult and I finished with a mid B, but I learned chemistry really well. I got an 800 on the Chem SAT and am expecting a 5 on the test. If you are up to a challenge and think that the honors version of the class will bore you, I’d recommend trying AP chem. Doing a bit of studying over the summer might make the beginning of the class go a little smoother for you (I went in without knowing what a mole was, or names of common ions, etc.).
