I’m choosing classes for next year and I’m conflicted between the two classes. AP Physics has a rep at my school for having a good teacher and lots of people take that class without any prior experience in physics, even though the class itself is pretty hard. However, AP Stats is considered an easy class, but at my school the teacher is pretty hard. The math course that I will be taking is pre-calc. Most of my classes are not going to be that hard next year as I’m taking pretty much “soft” AP/AICE. So I’m wondering which should I take?
Have you taken any physics? Colleges may prefer that you take at least one each of biology, chemistry, and physics (but they do not necessarily have to be AP level). If you want to go into any science or engineering major in college, you will want to have at least a high school level knowledge in each science before taking the college courses in those subjects.
AP physics 1 doesn’t assume any physics knowledge. If you’ve not taken Physics yet, it’d be the better choice since it’s one of the three sciences universities like to see as a sign of rigor.
No, I haven’t taken any physics but I have taken earth space science, biology, and chemestry. Most people at my school that take AP Physics don’t take physics.
It is best if you took some kind of physics course, either regular physics or AP physics, if you are aiming for a more selective college or any kind of science or engineering major.
You should take Bio, CHem and Physics during HS. If this is your chance to take Physics, do it.
