A little background: I am currently a high school junior, will be a senior next year. As of now, I plan to be a biology major in college. I have already taken AP Bio and am now deciding whether I should take AP physics or APES next year. Personally, I am not a fan of math at all and most likely would not enjoy physics, however in college, bio majors do have to take physics courses so it may be good to have background in the topic. On the other hand, I do enjoy APES and I could probably use my biology background knowledge from ap bio to make the course pretty simple. Other classes I plan on taking next year are AP calc AB, AP gov, and AP lit. Do you think it would be better for me to take APES or AP physics? Thanks for checking this out guys!
Also, I forgot to write this… The AP physics teacher is REALLY good at my school while the APES teacher is mediocre and lazy. I feel like APES is easy enough though that I would be able to teach myself without needing much instruction.
While there’s nothing wrong with APES as a science course, colleges expect that almost all students take at least a year of bio, chem, and physics. If you haven’t taken any physics yet, I recommend AP Physics over APES, especially because you told us that your AP Physics teacher is really good. If you’re very interested in APES, it’s completely okay to take it as an elective.
Best of luck and have a good day!
I’m taking both currently and APES is really easy. I don’t do much yet I still have a really high grade. I also decided to take physics and I think it was a really smart decision on my end. The teacher is AMAZING (he used to be a professor at UCLA) and I actually enjoy that class. It is really hard though and I work so hard but it’s manageable and I still have an A
Take honors English and take both APES and AP Physics1.
@MYOS1634 Unfortunately, my school only offers AP lit and normal non-honors English. If my school had honors I would take it.
Take AP Physics if you can handle reviewing Algebra 2 and Precalculus content.
Yea I can. I do not understand why AP physics is made out to be this difficult course if all it really is is basic algebra and some precalc. I must be missing something lol
Physics C’s math is harder
That’s because there are several physics classes: Physics1, which is hard in the way precalculus honors is hard, and physics C, which is hardcore and fast-paced, taken by very few students who want a challenge beside calculus BC (which is often taken concurrently).
Physics C may be fast or slow paced, depending on whether each part is covered in a semester or year. Same with 1 and 2.
The C means with calculus, although fewer topics are covered than 1 and 2, which do not use calculus.
Thanks for the info guys!!!
