I am going to be a junior in high school next year and these are the classes I am planning to take:
AP Calculus BC
AP Chemistry
AP Computer Science
AP English
AP US History
IB Spanish SL II (maybe)
I want to double up in science classes, so I will take either AP Physics or Honors Anatomy and Physiology as an additional science elective. I want to pursue a career in the medical field, so which of these 2 classes would be more beneficial to me?
Also, do I need to take this many AP classes to get into a good college?
In senior year, I plan to take AP Statistics, AP/L2 Gov & Econ, AP/L2 English, Honors Biochem, AP Physics or Honors Anatomy & Physiology (whichever class I don’t take junior year), AP Music Theory, and possibly a language class. Overall I will have taken 20 - 22 AP and Honors classes.
It’s not like you need anymore APs, and you’re interested in medicine, so I’d go with Honors Anatomy and Physiology. You don’t require as many APs as you have planned, for admission to a good college, but you want to challenge yourself. So try to assess whether the workload will harm your GPA and ECs and social life.
If you’re going to take both classes regardless, I’d recommend taking Anatomy and Physio junior year and taking AP Physics (I’m assuming C) senior year. AP Physics C is easier if you’ve already finished calculus. Other than that, it doesn’t really matter. You’re going to take both regardless. You could take one that you think you’ll get a better grade in because that will be the grade that colleges will see, but really, it probably won’t make much of a different either way.
