Hey guys,
I’d appreciate some advice regarding whether I should take AP Physics B or AP Environmental science next year (my junior year). I’ve already taken AP Chemistry (freshman) and Honors Physics (sophomore), so I feel like AP Phy is the obvious course to take. However, I really don’t like physics and am not a science-y person. Also, I’m already going to take 3 other APs and college calculus, so I’d benefit from the lighter load in AP environmental science.
So my question is, if I take AP Environmental science, will it still reflect favorably on me as a student to colleges, or will they dismiss it as a fluffy course like AP Human geo? I have no idea what I want to do in college but my dream school is Stanford or HYP.
Well, I think it all depends on your personal preference. Take whatever course you feel you will do well in, and more importantly whatever course you will enjoy taking. There is no one secret formula into getting into these top schools (from what I’ve researched), and also there is no Physics B anymore. The College Board split it up into AP Physics 1 & 2 (both algebra-based, ap physics 1 covers mechanics, ap physics 2 covers electricity & magnetism).
I am in ap physics now and am taking enviro next year. Definitely take the physics and save environmental science for senior year If you have already taken honors, the class should be easy.
@bluecatch
Do you think the workload is doable if I’m also taking AP Lit, APUSH, AP Psych, and Multivariable calc? I also have a significant (+3 hours a day) extracurricular. Thanks for your feedback.
Yep, it’s fine. I have 4 other ap classes i did alright in too. The AP test today though was pretty bad. Just don’t take the AP and you will be good
workload isn’t much but the ap exam is hard.
100 percent agree with those ahead of me that the Physics 1 exam was ridiculously difficult, and I found the Physics 2 exam today a lot easier. However, AP Physics 1 itself shouldn’t be too bad as a course.
