Hi so I’m currently a freshman in HS and thinking about the classes I should take next year. The science department changed a lot in a year and now its a requirement to either take “Physics in the Universe” which would probably be very easy for me as it is the most basic science class for 10th grade, or AP Physics which might be too hard. I wish there was an in between but there;s not so I would appreciate some suggestions of why I should do either. Right now I am already taking Algebra 2, so that will be done by next year, and I am taking AP Environmental Science, so although difficult, I am already managing an AP science class.
Please let me know which one I should do!
AP Physics 1 is now, in many high schools, the typical physics course for honors students, although it generally taken by juniors (and in some cases,by freshman where the HS follows a “physics first curriculum.” You definitely have the math prereqs to succeed.
Aain, each HS is different in how it structures is science sequence, but be aware that top colleges will expect, regardless of HS requirements, chem and bio as well.
What is the normal sequence of science in your HS? Look at your course catalog.
In some it is Bio, Chem, Physics, AP Science or Earth Science, Bio, Chem, Physics.
So should you be taking Physics as a sophomore at your school?
If you’ve completed algebra2 as a freshman you should find AP physics1 okay. Make sure you take honors bio and honors chem junior year and either one as an AP senior year.
