AP Physics v. AP Enviro??

Tell me what you think... please and thank you :)

Would this be a problem for admissions?..

For my junior year, I chose at subject selection, AP Physics B, AP Calc. AB, and Law III...

Then I got a call in the summer from my counselor saying that there was a schedule conflict. AP Physics B is only offered 2nd period, Law III is only offered 3rd, but AP Calculus AB was only offered 2nd and 3rd periods. So the problem was that I have to drop Physics to take Calc., drop Law III to take Calc., or drop Calc. altogether. I wouldn't drop Calculus at all, because there would be no other math option for me to take... I wouldn't drop Law III because I'm really passionate about it (I want to be a lawyer) and I just wouldn't... So that leaves me having to drop AP Physics B...

Then I needed to get another science so I had the choice of AP Enviro, AP Bio, and AP Chem. I wouldn't like AP Chem, and I would like AP Bio but I was unsure of whether I would be able to handle the courseload (which now I notice I probably could, but it's too late now) and it has been a long time since I studied Biology -- about 4 years -- so I wouldn't remember much. So I ended up taking Enviro, which I'm taking now, At the beginning, I was really bored, but other students I know who took it last yr assured me that it would get better...

Also, I took Physics Honors the year before (soph.) and was planning on taking AP Phys. B & C after. I wonder if the discontinuity makes an impact - it was out of my hands

Anyway, what I'd like to know is if the discontinuity makes a difference and the fact that I took a "lesser" AP (Enviro vs. Physics) does as well...

Thanks! :)

Harvard/other colleges know that schedules have limitations as to what courses are offered, and that sometimes, these ssorts of things are out of our hands. I really don't think they are going to care at all.

In our school there is no longer an honors Physics, honors students take Physics B. So I tend to think of it as a "lesser" AP. Many colleges don't offer any credit for Physics B, but do for Physics C. AP Environ. has the reputation for being an easier AP too, it's often only given one semester of credit vs a whole year for most other APs.

Anyway, since you've already had a high school physics course, I think it's fine to do AP Environ. instead, if you have any concerns just ask your GC to include a mention that you had a scheduling conflict and were unable to take physics. AP Bio is a huge amount of work - lots of info to memorize. It's probably the course my oldest spent the most time on of all the courses he took in high school.
