AP physics

I am currently a junior in highschool and deciding between taking AP physics next year. I already know that I love the teacher however I am not looking to spend my senior year studying 24/7. Has anyone had any experience with this class? Should I take it?

Is it AP Physics 1? What sciences have you taken? What math?

Yes it is AP Physics 1. I have taken biology honors, chemistry honors, and am currently taking physics honors. I received an A in all three. I have taken algebra 1 honors, geometry honors, and currently taking algebra 2/pre- calc honors. I received an A in all three of those classes, also. Next year I will be taking Calc BC.

What is your intended major? AP Physics is algebra based. For Engineering (as an example) you will need calculus based physics. So, even though it might help you with understanding, you will not be able to get the college credit. If what you want is to be able to get a college credit out of the way, take a look at what AP classes your intended school/major will allow you to request credit for. A.P. Chem should be an easier class to get credit for, but worth investigating.

If you have taken Honors Physics, then I am not sure if AP Physics 1 is the way to go. Is there AP Physics 2 at your school? If

I agree…what is your intended major?

If engineering, then you could take AP Physics 2 to get more background or AP Chem.
If not engineering, then you could take AP Physics 1, AP Chem or AP Bio

Also it depends on what type of college you want to apply to …if a top school, then you need an AP Bio/chem/Physics.
If not, you could do an AP Env Sci if not STEM

AP Physics 1 might not be easy, it has a pretty tough grade distribution https://apscore.collegeboard.org/scores/about-ap-scores/score-distributions/ with only 6% of students getting a 5, compared to 30% for AP Physics C.

If one plans to take the Physics SAT subject test later, AP Physics one should be a good preparation.

Some schools allow taking AP Physics C concurrently with AP calc, however this would require heavy studying. Perhaps AP Chemistry would be a compromise?

Actually it won’t; AP Physics 1 doesn’t cover 50-60% of the topics on the Subject Test. But the OP has given no indication of planning on taking the Subject Test

For my high school, AP physics 1 and 2 are combined. I am unsure of my major at this point but I do want to enter the math field, just haven’t narrowed it down yet. I do not plan to take any subject tests.

I’m not necessarily taking the class for the credit (although that is a plus). I was wondering more content based. Has anyone taken the class?
