AP Prep Books-- Please Help

Hi,

I needed help choosing AP Review books because there doesn't seem to be much consensus on what books to use. Maybe thats because different books work best for different people, but I am looking for books that seem to generally help one achieve good results. I'm trying to get a 5 on all my exams.

The exams I am taking are:

AP Calculus AB
AP English Literature
AP Environmental Science- REA / PR / Barrons?
AP European History- REA Crash Course + PR?
AP Human Geography- REA / Kaplan/ Barrons / PR?

Im not too worried about books for the first two subjects on the list, but really need advice for the last 3. Sorta am trying to narrow down to 1 or 2 books per subject.

Would really appreciate any advice/ suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I’ve seen that and I went through it, its just there’s very mixed opinions…

Your choices for AP Europe are solid. Skeptical about REA and Kaplan for AP Human Geography. I saw the new Crash Course book for AP English Literature at Barnes and Noble. It looked interesting. However, I did not take the course so I can’t really judge the book.

@ Dark Knight: Is the regular REA book for AP Euro good?

check the consolidated book suggestions

^I do not recommend the regular REA AP Euro book. Based upon my analysis of the 2009 AP European released exam I recommend the Crash Course book and Princeton Review. Normally, I am not a huge fan of PR. However, facts are facts. The AP Euro Crash Course plus PR should put you in position to score a 5.

Thanks dark knight. By the way, that thread is awesome. Thanks so much for the painstaking analysis. I’m set for euro, now I need help with HG and Env Sci for which ill go through the consolidated book suggestions again. Still, would appreciate people with inputs/ experiance  Thanks

For AP Calc AB/BC
buy Peterson’s and Barron’s. This advice seems like it is pretty consolidated in my school.
Overkill is always useful when it comes to the real exam… because it’s not you getting PWNd… but it’s always the other way around :)

BARRONS for AP Calc AB
My teacher heavily recommends it. His students mostly get 4-5’s on the AP exam. Great practice for the types of multiple choice exams you’ll see on the AP exam. I bought the Princeton Review book initially, but it pales in comparison to the Barrons book.

I had picked up PR for Calc from the library and was going through it, but I’ll definitely look into Barrons/Petersons. Thanks everyone :)

Still kinda unsure about HG and Env Sci which im trying to self study :stuck_out_tongue: Any lit suggestions?

There is an online program that my daughter is using called Study Island. She is using it for Biology, Chemistry and English. She prefers being able to work online and not have to lug those big books around. Here is a link to info.
