Hey, I want to start studying for AP exams. So what do you guys recommend for Calc (AB or BC i'm unsure about), Biology, Physics, and Spanish?

bumpty bump

i'm going to make my purchase soon. I was thinking Princeton Review, but I heard that Barrons is also good. Any opinions? Is there an official book from Collegeboard?

I wouldn't go with princeton review.

barrons helped me a lot with biology

kaplan is bad; they have a lot of wrong information. at least it was wrong in ushistory and psychology.

go w/ amsco & barrons. barrons had questions that were harder than the exam.

REA is suppose to be the best for APUSH.

English- Cliffnotes
Physics- Princeton Review/ Cliffnotes

also, Bio-Cliffnotes are supposed to be really great.

let Princeton Review be your savior...i've used them for everything so far and I've done well (including my 3 day crash course in AP US hisotory on which i got a 4 on and my friend did the same and got a 5...thank you Princeton Review). I have the AP Calc and AP Physics books from Princeton Review

yeah; princeton review was good for apush (i got a 5) but kaplan wasnt good for ush (my friend had wrong dates) and then for psychology (wrong info) and i ended up with a 4.

its actually really good to go over any class notes you took. that definitely helped for my dbq!

REA & Amsco are definitely the best for USH.

What calculus have you been taking at school? AB or BC?

I wouldn't recommend that you take BC unless you're very familiar with series, primarily Taylor and McLaurin Series. I believe that is what distinguishes AB from BC.

i'm taking AB, and i'm actually having a hard time. ru a junior or senior and did u apply to cornell?

I'm in IB Math Methods (HL). I don't know wth is gonna be on these exams. I might take BC...but i'm not sure.

You really cannot beat Cliffs for AP Biology. The best stuff out there.

Yeah, I studied of Cliffs Biology and I got a 5. . . but I also did really well in bio the whole year. So, it won't work mericles, but I'd recommend it.

the books depend on each subject. i think its better to get one that has harder questions so you're better prepared for the exam.

i haven't used any prep books (actually, i took a practice test or two from an REA book for USH out of boredom, but i don't really count that), so i can't help you there.

but regarding calculus... the series are the biggest difference between AB and BC, but i think indeterminite integrals (no, that's not a typo of indefinite), and calculus with polar and parametric equations are a few of the other differences. i, too, do not reccomend taking the bc exam without extensive familiarity with these topics.

my statistics teacher recommends amsco for stats and has told us we'll even be using it in class before the test. that's the only wisdom i can bring.

iheartlax: I'm a senior, but I took Calc. BC as a junior, and I got into Cornell ED.

I'd say stick with the AB test. I found the BC exam pretty challenging just because we didn't spend too much time on Taylor and McLaurin series.

I'm gonna add another vote for Princeton Review because I have used them for all of the standardized tests (AP, SAT I, and SAT II) and I scored very highly on all of them.

"I'm in IB Math Methods (HL)" Didnt know they gave math methods at HL.
I havnt done APs, but I'll give u my experience from the SAT 1 and 2s. Within a single publisher, quality of material for different subjects varies. I felt Princeton Review and Kaplan were pretty good, however PR was harder. The harder the better. However, the Barrons SAT2 Physics book absolutely sucked. They gave a **** load of extra info and some ********, the tests wernt organized well at all - definitely nowhere close to the way u'd find them on the SAT - and they were way harder than u'd expect. I did one practise test from the book, and ended up getting a 720. Did the real test the next day and got a comfortable 800. The only other Barrons text book I've touched is the SAT2 Math 2C book. That wasnt great either. Barrons may have tougher and more questions, but they're kinda screwed up.
I'd say that PR would be the best. Again, I havnt done APs.
